Why do I need to cleanse, recharge & activate my crystals and crystal jewellery?
Just as we reset our space, our routines and our mindset, many people also like to reset the crystals they wear and use regularly.
Over time, your crystal jewellery becomes part of your everyday life. You wear it through busy days, stressful moments, celebrations, quiet reflection and everything in between. Cleansing is a simple ritual that helps you reconnect with your crystal, your intention and the reason you chose it in the first place.
Think of it like refreshing the water in a bowl rather than using the same water over and over again. The ritual is less about “fixing” the crystal and more about creating a fresh starting point for you.
Recharging can be used as a moment to pause, reset and bring new focus to your intention. Activating your crystal simply means giving it a personal purpose — whether that is calm, confidence, protection, abundance, love or something completely unique to you.
For me, cleansing, recharging and activating crystals is about mindfulness, intention and creating a meaningful connection with the piece you choose to wear.
How do I cleanse my crystals, bracelets and necklaces?
Palo Santo
Palo Santo, often called “Holy Wood”, is traditionally used in cleansing and spiritual rituals and has a warm, woody scent that many people find calming and comforting.
For crystal jewellery, it can be used in much the same way as incense or other smoke-cleansing methods.
How do I cleanse my crystals with Palo Santo?
Light one end of the Palo Santo stick and allow it to burn briefly before gently blowing out the flame.
Let the smoke rise, then slowly move your crystal or jewellery through the smoke for a few moments.
As you do this, reconnect with the intention behind your piece.
You might say:
“Let this piece remind me to stay grounded and calm.”
“May this crystal represent protection, clarity and strength.”
“Let this be a fresh start for the intention I choose today.”
Always place the Palo Santo on a heat-safe surface after use and never leave it burning unattended.

Smoke / Sage Cleansing
Smoke cleansing is a traditional ritual used in many cultures and spiritual practices to refresh a space, object or personal ritual.
For crystal jewellery, it can be a gentle, water-free cleansing method — especially useful for stones, elastic, thread or metal components that you would rather not expose to water.
You can use incense, Palo Santo, sage or another cleansing smoke that feels meaningful to you.
How do I cleanse my bracelets and crystals with smoke?
Light your chosen incense, Palo Santo or cleansing herb and allow a small amount of smoke to rise.
Hold your crystal or jewellery nearby and slowly move it through the smoke for a few moments. There is no need to cover it heavily — the intention behind the ritual is what matters most.
As you do this, reconnect with the reason you chose the piece in the first place.
You might repeat a simple intention such as:
“Help me return to calm.”
“Remind me to stay focused.”
“Let this piece represent confidence and protection.”
“Help me reconnect with the intention I chose for today.”
For me, this is one of the most peaceful ways to cleanse crystal jewellery because it creates a moment to pause, reset and reconnect.

Brown Rice
Dry brown rice is another traditional, water-free method some people use as part of a crystal cleansing ritual.
To try it, fill a bowl with dry brown rice and place your crystal beneath the grains for a few hours or overnight.
This method can be especially useful when you want to avoid water or moisture, although delicate jewellery should still be handled carefully to prevent scratching or damage.
After the ritual, discard the rice rather than cooking or reusing it.

Moonlight Recharge
Placing crystals under the moonlight is one of the most popular and beautiful ways to create a personal recharging ritual.
The full moon is often associated with reflection, release and renewal, making it a meaningful time to pause and reconnect with the intention behind your crystals and jewellery.
How do I recharge my crystals in moonlight?
Place your crystals or crystal jewellery somewhere they can rest overnight — on a windowsill, covered patio, table or another safe place where they can receive the moonlight.
They do not need to be directly outdoors. If the weather is damp, cold or rainy, place them safely inside near a window instead.
Cloud cover is not a reason to skip the ritual either. Moonlight charging is about the intention and symbolism of the practice rather than needing your crystals to sit in a direct beam of light.
There is also no need to rinse your crystals beforehand, especially if you are unsure whether the stone or jewellery components are water-safe.
Leave them overnight and collect them the following morning.
As you place them down, take a moment to reconnect with your intention. You might say:
“Let this crystal remind me to stay motivated and focused.”
“May this piece represent calm, clarity and balance.”
“Today I choose confidence, abundance and positive intention.”
The words do not have to be perfect. Choose something that feels personal and meaningful to you.

Return to Nature
Returning crystals to the earth can be a meaningful way to symbolically reset and reconnect them with nature.
If you choose this method, place your crystal in clean, dry soil or sand for a short period — anywhere from a few hours to a day is usually enough for the ritual.
Use extra care with jewellery, delicate stones, porous crystals or pieces with metal components, as moisture, dirt or grit can damage them.
If you prefer not to bury the crystal directly, place it in a small natural-fibre pouch or container first.
This is a slow, simple ritual that can be used occasionally alongside your other favourite cleansing and recharging methods.
How to Earth Cleanse
A simple way to do this is with a healthy house plant, clean soil or dry sand.
For loose crystals, you can place them gently on top of the soil or nestle them slightly into the surface for a few hours. If you prefer, you can keep them there while you are not using them so they remain visible and easy to enjoy.
For crystal jewellery, rather place the piece on top of the soil or hang it carefully from a sturdy branch rather than burying it. This helps protect elastic, thread and metal components from moisture and dirt.
As with every cleansing ritual, use the time to reconnect with the intention behind your crystal.
You might say:
“Let this piece remind me of self-love and confidence.”
“Help me return to calm and balance.”
“Let this crystal represent the intention I choose to carry forward.”
The wording can be completely your own — what matters most is that it feels personal and meaningful to you.

Running Water
Running water is one of the simplest ways to refresh certain crystals and crystal jewellery.
Hold the crystal briefly under cool, clean running water, then dry it carefully with a soft cloth.
Avoid soaking crystals for long periods, and always check that your stone is water-safe first. Some crystals are porous, soft or reactive and should not be exposed to water.
For bracelets and necklaces, also consider the metal components, elastic and thread — repeated soaking can weaken or tarnish them over time.
If you are unsure whether a crystal can safely go under water, choose a dry cleansing method instead.

How often should I cleanse, recharge & activate my crystals?
There is no fixed rule.
Some people like to cleanse their crystals regularly, while others do it only when the piece feels like it needs a reset or when they want to reconnect with a new intention.
A simple guideline is to cleanse or recharge your crystals whenever it feels meaningful to you — for example after a stressful period, before setting a new intention, after wearing a piece frequently, or during a full moon ritual.
You can use one method consistently or alternate between different methods depending on the crystal, the jewellery and what feels right for you.
The most important part is the intention behind the ritual, not how often you do it.
